If it is hardware then the issue will be the same with Linux. There is no need to install Linux to the hard drive to try it. I'm having the exact same issue. My colleague worked on this with Zoom and here is the information that he has provided to our coworkers.

This seems to be prevalent on HP laptops. This comes straight from Zoom support: "It sounds like echo cancellation kicking in. If you have open speakers built-in for the laptop and built-in mic. To avoid terrible echo, your microphone is muting itself, if you are not manually doing so. I'd recommend lowering the volume [of your speakers] or using a headset to avoid that.

I believe it is good to have BLC61's steps on hand also. We have not received any additional complaints for a few days now. I am praying it stays that way. Had this problem come up on two laptops - same model HP Probook G6. Tried the above fixes, but nothing seemed to work. Was finally able to fix it by updating Windows to newest version and installing this audio driver from hp's website.

I did also implement the above fix, so it's possible it helped too. ProBook G6's here I had users start complaining about a week ago, when Teams call use ramped up for those users. I expect it was happening all along, but those users were on shorter, less frequent video calls. That setting seems to have helped most users but it came back for others , so I think that the hardware acceleration also causes or exacerbates the random muting behavior. After reaching out I found that Zoom is not yet officially supporting Windows The system requirements page still certainly does not list Windows I have heard many users be able to run Zoom on Windows 11 with no problem, but also numerous cases of users having some trouble of one type or another. It was the Laptops specific audio driver that was not working. Although when I first logged this issue the drivers had been verified, now that I reinstall the driver today things work correctly. There are many UX models listed. They kinda try to work but cut out after a few seconds.

Downloading the audio driver manually and restarting the computer didn't work for me. I've tried it twice now and nothing. I've even tried a complete PC Reset, but still the same problem persists.

Same problem here. I've downloaded the driver from Asus, but Windows won't let me install it. Says, "you already have the best driver installed", or something to that effect. Looking in Device Manager and the Events tab I see this: "Audio inputs and outputs" Microphone and Speaker - audio drivers failed to migrate settings in the update to Win 11 from Win 10 at the end of January.

And Windows won't allow me to install a new driver. But I don't seem to be able to use them. This is crazy.
